Our inaugural policy focus is legislation to restrict the retail sale and routine commercial use of vertebrate glue traps in Georgia, paired with investment in humane, effective alternatives.
What we plan to propose
- Restrict the retail sale of vertebrate glue traps to consumers in Georgia.
- Narrow commercial use to documented public-health circumstances under licensed operators, consistent with approaches taken by other jurisdictions.
- Support Integrated Pest Management training for licensed Georgia pest professionals.
- Direct state agencies to publish humane-alternatives guidance for consumers, aligned with U.S. CDC recommendations.

Why it matters
Consumer glue traps are indiscriminate. Animal-welfare organizations including Humane World for Animals and the RSPCA document that non-target species — songbirds, chipmunks, snakes, and juvenile reptiles — are commonly captured, often resulting in prolonged suffering.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and UGA Cooperative Extension both recommend Integrated Pest Management — exclusion, sanitation, and targeted trapping — as the durable, effective approach to rodent control.
Precedent
National prohibitions on the sale and use of glue traps have been enacted in the United Kingdom (Glue Traps (Offences) Act 2022) and the Republic of Ireland (Animal Health and Welfare (Prohibition of Glue Traps) Act 2022), as well as in New Zealand. In the United States, cities including West Hollywood and Ojai, California have adopted local ordinances restricting glue-trap sales.
